HADLEIGH BOWLS CLUB

The Club was founded in 1930 and has been at its present location in John H. Burrows Park on Rectory Road since the early 1960s.

The total playing membership is presently limited to 150. This was made up of 95 men and 55 ladies. As from July 2005 the club became fully mixed so this ratio changes according to applications. There is also a fluctuating non playing membership consisting of men and ladies who have been full members of the club but are no longer able to manage outdoor bowling.

The club plays outside from May to September in internal leagues, competitions, friendly matches against other clubs both home and away and roll up sessions.

In the winter months it has a very active indoor Short Mat program. This consists of internal leagues in the morning between 9.00am and 1.00pm. Casual rollups between 2.00pm and 6.00pm and additional roll ups in the evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. All sessions are 2 hours. The charge for this is £1 per player per session.

Costs (for 2009)

1. One-off joining fee is £65.00.

2. The annual subscription is £47.00.

3. A payment of £96.00 (18 to 59 years of age) or £62.00 (age 60+) or £38.00 (under 18) is payable to The Castle Point B. C. (through the club) for a green fee season ticket for 2009.

There is of course the additional cost of personal equipment and clothing.

Dress code

The dress code outdoors is either Grey trousers/skirts and white tops (Greys) or all white (whites) as specified on the day. Club ties are worn by the men (in some instances ties are optional).

THE ART MINISTRY

The Art Ministry is a registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1108227) whose main aim is to provide arts and crafts facilities to all, but especially to children and teenagers and to those who are disabled or disadvantaged, including the blind and physically disabled and those with mental health problems. Our belief is that arts and crafts help to meet the creative, emotional and social needs of the community.

The Art Ministry is based in a well equipped, purpose built Art Room adjacent to the United Reformed Church in Church Road, Hadleigh (opposite the Iceland store car park). There is a large garden to the front and a small sensory garden at the rear.

In addition to the weekly classes at our base in Hadleigh we also run projects in junior, secondary and special schools to produce work for the community.

The charity is accepted and supported by Castle Point Council (but not financially!) and people are referred to us by the Social Services, hospital departments, local charities etc.

If you are interested in supporting the Art Ministry either financially, or as a volunteer at the weekly classes or on one of the projects, then please phone 07582 025163 or e-mail info@theartministry.org.uk.

The Art Ministry has a website at:
http://www.theartministry.org.uk

Please see the website for more details, including a schedule of the classes currently held.

CASTLE POINT WILDLIFE GROUP

The group is made up of volunteers who work protect and develop the natural environment within the borough of Castle Point.

We currently manage two areas of woodland under licences from CPBC. The first site is North Benfleet Hall Wood near Woodside Park which consists of around 11 acres of woodland with some natural ponds. The second siteis West Wood in Hadleigh/Thundersley. West Wood is over 80 acres of ancient woodland that was historically used for coppicing. It is a site we are restoring slowly after being unmanaged for many years.

We participate in other environment projects around the borough and put on displays at local shows. We also support the area in assisting to educate the youngsters of the borough about the wildlife in their community.

As a group we are always looking for volunteers to join us. Membership is only £5 per year for a family.

RAYLEIGH, CASTLE POINT & DISTRICT CATS PROTECTION

Our purpose is to improve the lives of felines living in our area and, over the years, we have homed hundreds of cats and kittens and provided advice and practical assistance to people.

We cover the areas of Canvey Island, Benfleet, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Rayleigh, Hockley, Hullbridge and Lower Hockley.

Our branch was founded in 1984 and is run entirely by volunteers who work tirelessly to help cats and we are dependent on our own fundraising efforts to fund the work we do. Money is always tight and, to raise funds, we organise various events details of which can be found on our website's Events page. Some of our cat homing shows and fundraising events take place in or near Hadleigh.

We are currently in urgent need of more people to foster a cat or kitten that has been abandoned or the owner is unable to keep. With the closure of one of our main fostering facilities, coupled with the fact that we are being asked to take in more and more cats and kittens, we are now in the very sad position where we are having to turn away needy cats due to having nowhere to accommodate them prior to them being rehomed.

When we take in a cat or kitten it has a health check, is fully vaccinated, treated for fleas, worms and microchipped. We also visit potential homes prior to rehoming and support new owners through the process.

On average our branch rehomes 300 cats and kittens a year.

For further information contact Val on 01268 794648.
