Hadleigh Town Centre Masterplan
On 21 October 2009, Castle Point Council's Cabinet on appointed a Member Working Group to advise the Cabinet on the development of a Hadleigh Town Centre Masterplan.

On 16 February 2010, the Cabinet appointed Urban Practitioners to develop the Town Centre Masterplan. This followed an appraisal process involving the Hadleigh Town Centre Liaison Group and Castle Point Regeneration Partnership.

One of the first priorities was to set up a 'shop' to allow residents to give their views on regeneration of the town centre. The shop was opened on 17 September at 74 High Street.

A website - www.heartinhadleigh.org.uk - was also setup to allow comments to be submitted online.

In December 2010, a draft Hadleigh Town Centre Masterplan was published. The document outlined various ideas on changes to Hadleigh to facilitate regeneration. A period of consultation then took place until Saturday 29 January 2011. The consultation mainly focused on a list of 'top ten ideas'.

The Draft Masterplan was adopted by the board of the Castle Point Regeneration Partnership in early March 2011, with an additional proposal to improve the alley from Rectory Road car park through to London Road.

The final Masterplan document was published in August 2011. It included some minor changes including removal of the proposed bandstand and dropping of the through road from Homestead Gardens to Castle Lane. The document will be considered by a Special Policy Development Group.

A Supplementary Planning Document, forming part of the Local Development Framework, will be prepared by Castle Point Council. There will be further consultation before the planning document is adopted.

See 'Planning Matters' page for more information.
